essure’s Not The Only Bitch.”
There was a saying in high school, “Peer pressure’s a bitch.” It’s true, it’s the bitch that drives teens to do dumb things. A teen will usually jump off a bridge if everyone’s doing it, but only in their mid teens. Definitely not the case in my early teens. I had to deal with a different bitch, curiosity.
Early teens for me was 12 or 13 years of age. New things I learned and picked up those years, not just good things but also bad things. That was the year I tried smoking, and smoking weed(marijuana), and even ecstasy (E, Adam, x, xtc) . You know what drove me to try such things, it wasn’t peer pressure. It was Curiosity.
See, if a bunch of teens are trying to smoke for the first time, they’re not pressuring each other. They’re curios. They want to find out what it’s like because they saw a stop smoking ad on TV or an anti drug campaign video on TV and wanted to see what it was about. Yes sometimes these things do more harm than good.
The first time I had a puff of a cigarette no one said to me, “Yo, try this or you won’t be cool.” All they did was light up a cigarette and hold it in front of me and asked if I wanted some. Curiosity is what got me that day. I stuck out my hand, fingers ready to accept the cigarette and I said, “Yo, let me try some of that.” I didn’t even know what to do with it, I stuck it up to my lips and sucked some smoke in. I had no idea what inhaling was, after I sucked the smoke in I just blew it out.
On the flip side, we weren’t pressuring our friends to smoke or do drugs to fit in. We asked, they rejected, we said cool and that was that. BUT, if they came to us asking to try it, we weren’t going to turn them down.
In the next part I’m going to be discussing drugs, and what the pamphlets don’t tell you about how to tell if your child is high. I called it, “Puff, Puff, Pass.”
