With holiday Thanksgiving Monday here in Canada already over, I realized I didn’t give thanks for the things I have. My main focus was eating as much turkey as I could until it knocked me out. Maybe even drowning my turkey and potatoes in some home made gravy and indulging in some pumpkin pie or stuffing. With so much thought going into what I was going to prepare or going to eat, I didn’t even take a moment out of my day to give thanks.
I noticed that many people are always talking about the things they want or the things they wish they have, but they never seem to talk about what they already have. Unless they’re bragging about it which doesn’t count because they’re not really giving thanks for what they have, they’re trying to make other people envious. I find myself talking about expensive cars that I wish I had but I forget that I already have a car that many people would love to have. There’s struggling people out there who can’t even afford a car who would love any car you give them and here I am taking mine for granted wishing I had an even more expensive one.
The food I ate throughout Thanksgiving, the delicious turkey and stuffing, the pies and other desserts, oh and how did I ever forget about the perogies with sautéed onions and fresh bacon bits? Did I give thanks for any of that? No I didn’t. Realizing how many homeless people there are out there that would have killed for a meal like that, the least I could do is be thankful and give thanks for what I have.
I guess if you’re so focused on wanting things you don’t have you’ll forget about the things you do have, which is wrong. I know it’s something I need to work on and probably so do many others out there.
