I believe that time is money, and if you can save time, you can earn or save more money. I sure don’t have time to pack myself a lunch, or maybe I’m just too lazy. There’s so many different fast food chains around where I have to be anyways that I don’t need to pack a lunch because I won’t go hungry. I’ve been monitoring my fast food spending for the past month, and what I found were pretty shocking.
Working 5 days a week, that’s 5 lunch meals I have to buy. Sometimes I even get so hungry on my way home from work I stop and get fast food. So on average let’s say I go eat fast food 6 times a week. What do I usually eat? Anything, but mostly McDonald’s. I’ll order a quarter pounder with cheese meal, iced tea to drink, and get 6 chicken nugget pieces with honey to dip it in on the side. My total each time is usually about $13, give or take if I want to add a pie or two to my meal also.
Sure there’s health issues with me eating so much grease and fast food. I try to eat subway once in a while, may not be much but it’s something. There’s a trade off though, it’s quick. I don’t have to take the time and effort to pack a lunch or maybe I don’t want to eat left overs again.
So what is it costing me to not have to pack a lunch? $13, 6 times a week comes out to $78 a week. $78 a week comes out to $312 a month, roughly. Can you believe that? I spend $312 a month on fast food. That’s more than my utilities bill, more than my cable bill, that’s even more than I spend on groceries per month. Don’t think much of that $13 every time, but it sure adds up when you take a look at it. Is the time to pack a lunch or eat left overs again worth $312? You’re damn right it does. Fast food is an unnecessary expense, spending that much on it anyways, time to start packing a lunch.
