Recently I got an e-mail asking, “Why do I blog?” I never really put any thought into it and it got me thinking. I guess for me to keep blogging I should probably have a reason why I do it. I’ve only been blogging for 2 weeks really and this is the best answers I came up with so far. Who knows, maybe my reasons to continue blogging will be different as I progress.
As I looked around the net to see why other’s blog, I came across some philosophical answers that people posted. How everyone’s connected and what not. No that wasn’t my answer, my answer was something far more simple, or so I thought.
The first real answer I came up with was to piss someone off halfway around the world. The things I say can only be heard and affect people within ear shot of me, but my writing can be viewed by anyone around the world with a computer and internet access. Much more powerful than my voice. Sometimes I’ll say something to piss people off, at least if I write it, I can piss more people off than those that can physically reach me or hear me.
Why would I want to piss people off? Anyone that knows me knows that I like to get a reaction out of people. It may not always be to anger them, it could be bringing a laugh, or mentioning something thought provoking. Whatever the reaction is, it’s caused by something I said or wrote. My words were powerful enough to draw a reaction and cause a connection.
On another note, why would you want to piss people off? Everyone remembers someone in their life that pissed them off or made them really happy. Since I don’t know you, the chances of me making you happy are less than me pissing you off. Will you still remember me none the less? Yeah, you will. At some point I’m going to write something so against what you believe in and it’s going to make you so mad you’ll think to yourself, “What the hell is this asshole talking about? F&#@ him!” From that moment on, you’ll always remember my name. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not going to go out and purposely write offensive articles, I’m just so headstrong about what I talk about that we will eventually butt heads.
